Alana\u00a0Lentin\u00a0and\u00a0I published an Opinion piece in The Guardian about the Australian right\u2019s agenda to join the war on critical race theory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\nAs with the moral panics of the 1990s, which conjured up the strawman of \u201cpolitical correctness gone mad\u201d and, in Australia, the\u00a0Black Armband view of history<\/a>, today\u2019s folk devil \u2013 critical race theory \u2013 is touted as irrational and dangerous. The core of the right\u2019s misrepresentation of CRT is that it preaches \u201chatred of white people\u201d to impressionable young people in schools. CRT, it is claimed, contributes to further dividing an already incohesive society, splintered by too many years of misguided multicultural policies which were foisted upon well-meaning publics by minorities determined to live segregated lives. As one of the founders of CRT, Professor Cheryl Harris\u00a0put it<\/a>, the aim to discredit and\u00a0ban<\/a>\u00a0CRT, \u201cis a ploy intended to gin up the idea that anti-racist work is itself racist \u2013 against whites.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
